They are 100% vegan, raw, and contain probiotics as well as postbiotics that are different from what is found in other fermented foods like Kombucha and apple cider vinegar.
What is the difference between water kefir and other probiotic beverages?
Water Kefir is lacto-fermented (not to be confused with lactose found in dairy) while Kombucha, apple cider vinegar, kvass, and other fermented beverages are acetobacter fermented. While still vegan and dairy-free, this is why water kefir has no sour flavor notes or vinegar qualities. It is also more hydrating and replenishing than the cleansing and diuretic nature of Kombucha.
